Macugnaga small mountain village founded in the thirteenth century by the people of Walser is known for its unique location and spectacular known as the “Pearl of Monte Rosa”. Dominated by the imposing east face of Monte Rosa – a beautiful wall between the Alps and the only morphological Himalayan – Macugnaga is a little gem where nature, tradition, modernity and alpine culture are perfectly blended. A perfectly preserved example of an ancient mountain village a perfectly preserved and evolved into a modern tourist resort in respect of its origins and traditions. The spirit of community, Walser is still deep and heartfelt, with its warmth, its customs, its dishes and its architectural features. Typical of the place are the chalets, the bread ovens of Dorf and the historical nucleus within which lies the Old Church of the fourteenth century and the century-old linden in 1300 that deserve a visit as well as the Museum of Walsers and the nearby Gold Mines of Guja.

During the summer Macugnaga offers a beautiful natural mountain: a green valley nestled in the valley at the foot of the highest wall of the Alps (the “east” of the Rosa) and numerous springs, streams and waterfalls, is ideal for walking and mountain trekking starting point for numerous hiking and mountain refuges step towards including surrounding the Rifugio Zamboni, Sella Rifugio Alpe Cicerwald. International Center of mountaineering history of the discipline allows the practice to the more experienced and demanding on the glacier of Monte Rosa, but even simple walking and hiking in the beautiful surroundings. The winter season with snow from November to May allow fans to enjoy downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding and ice climbing. Macugnaga is also a modern ski resort, with a valid ski area that stretches from the village up to 3000 meters of Monte Moro, which is able to offer enthusiasts about 40 miles of prepared pistes with various levels of difficulty. It has two cable cars that carry up to 3,000 meters of Monte Moro where there is also a great snow park for snowboarding enthusiasts, and two lifts leading to the 1900 meters of the Belvedere, at the foot of the glacier of Monte Rosa. For lovers of skiing, from the hamlet of Pecetto winds a trail that leads up to the Valley Quarazza.
